I woke up this morning with a plan. It involved brunch, shopping at Nordies and then doing homework. This is how it has played out so far...
I walked out my front door around 10 a.m. Stopped for a short drip before heading over to Lola (Tom Douglas' restaurant attatched to Hotel Andra at the corner of 4th & Virginia). The host was most attractive and I was seated quickly. I ordered a mimosa - because you're "supposed to" and besides, it felt really grown up! I had two eggs, scrambled, 3 slices of bacon, garlic smashed fried potatoes, and toast. Lest it sounds too unhealthy, there was half a strawberry and a cube each of watermelon and cantalope. :) The mimosa was interestign. I was expecting a bit sweeter, but the bubbly was nice. It complimented bacon & eggs quite nicely. The eggs were on the bland side, by themselves. The potatoes are FAB! Mike & I went there about 6 months ago and I had forgotten how amazing the potatoes were. Kidd Valley Garlic Fries they are NOT! The garlic is far more subtle and there are other spices as well. The toast is rustic and if you don't eat it right away, its like eating crackers. There were 2 really cute jars of jam - strawberry and orange marmalade. But it was the bacon. MMMMMMMMM About 1/4 inch thick. The edges were firm and chewy. The fat melted in mouth. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And for the first time, the service was good at one of Tom's restaurants. (Actually, it was better than I've had at most fine dining establishments here in Seattle!)
So I finished brunch and headed for Nordstrom and their Anniversary Sale. It was a total crush and I only bought a t-shirt, a pair of brown heels, and a couple of MAC items. The service was very unsatisfactory. The girl who started my dressing room apparently disappeared because I never saw her again.
Downstairs in shoes, I was wandering thru and listening to the salespeople talk to customers and make suggestions and going and getting more stuff for them. I had the misfortune of asking a guy if this shoe came in brown. He said yes and told me where to sit. When he came back with the shoes, he took them out of the box, set them on the floor in front of me...and walked away! I had to wait for quite a few minutes before he came back and I could request the next size. The exact same scenario played out. I tried the new pair on then went back to the original. I took them off, put them in the box, put on my sandals and sat there. He came back and was like, "have you made a decision?" I said I thought I would take these ones. He takes them out of my hands and says "We'll take care of these right over here." I really wanted to get a pair of flats, but he was ready to check me out, so I just went because I was so tired of being in the store.
Then over to the MAC counter because I dropped my beauty powder this morning and it shattered into many pieces. I had to vacuum the bathroom to get them all! A girl asked if I had been helped and was I looking for anything? I started explaining that I had dropped my beauty powder and was wondering... She jumped in and said that I should keep my container because for every 6 empty containers I brought in, I could get a free lipstick and that was how they recycled. I was like 'ok, um' and fortunately Shane walked over just then and said he liked my ring. I said I liked his hair, and when he started telling me how he had done it himself, the girl just walked away. He asked if I needed anything so I told him about my beauty powder. He asked if I wanted to replace it and I said yes. So he showed me the new one and then showed me the new line of mineral stuff and sold me a lipglass that I definitely did not need. But he's a good salesperson and asked questions and sold me stuff.
So I left the store with a ridiculously large shopping bag for 1 t-shirt, 1 pair of shoes, and 2 cosmetics. And a feeling of disgust for Nordies. I am hoping that this experience was just because it was the HUGE sale and they were overwhelmed by the number of people shopping.
I walked home, picked up my school stuff and have been sitting here for about 2 hours and haven't accomplished anything. Guess I should fix that?

Yeah, that would be why I never shop at Nordstrom for the Anniversary Sale. Or any other sale. I would rather pay full price and get good service than battle sale-crazed shoppers with competitive gleaming eyes for the attention of harried salespeople... Full price is way better. :)
