...can I not walk without spilling my coffee?
...can't I just go home after class instead of "surfing the web". I should have been doing homework.
...can't the boys I'm interested in be interested in me? (see 2 posts down)
Scene 1: Introducing the cast of characters.
J, the boy
R, me
A, the mutual friend, classmate of R
M, teacher that R & A have Tuesday night
Scene 2: The Connection
J is a security guard at a store that R & A walk past on their way to school. R lives nearby, A walks from somewhere. R & A are both very friendly girls. J is a friendly boy. A is a server at a local pub that J frequents. A invited R to J's 30th birthday party that was to be held there. R totally forgot about it and did something else that night. (R is not much one for "going out.")
Scene 3: Monday of this week
R was walking to school. J was standing outside of his store. R stopped and wished him a "happy belated birthday" and they ended up chatting for a while. R didn't think any more about the conversation until...
Scene 4: Tuesday night in class
A walked in and said to R, "I was just talking about you."
R: "You must have been talking to J. I was talking to him yesterday."
A: "You made such an impression on him. He kept talking about you and how cute you were and how beautiful you were. And he thinks you're fabulous."
R: "Thanks. I think I'm fabulous too."
(queue laughter from classroom!)
A: "No seriously, he wouldn't stop talking about you. And he really wants you to call him. Tonight. He tried to find out if you had a boyfriend and you didn't give him an answer."
Transcript of note from J: "I THINK YOUR CUITE (heart w/arrow thru) (smiley face)"
R: (thinking) "He asked if I have a boyfriend?"
R: "oh"
A: "So are you going to call him?"
R: "um"
A: "Do you have a boyfriend?"
R: "No. I don't have time for them. I don't even have time for me!"
M: "What? Rachel's got a boyfriend? Rachel, you're getting married?"
R: "What? No!"
M: "Rachel, you're working on your wedding picture as your final project?"
R: "What? No!" (laughs)
M: "No worries, you'll be divorced by the end of class anyway."
(more classroom laughter)
Scene 5: Wednesday morning, R waking up
R: (thinking) "OH! He did tell me I should come to the other store that he works at in the Market with my guy... Guess I could call the RHB for a Market wander? We haven't done that for a really long time... Gaa! How do I get into these things?"
